By Plane

The fastest and most convenient way to reach Palermo from abroad is by air. Falcone-Borsellino Airport (PMO), also known as Palermo International Airport, is located about 35 kilometers northwest of the city. It serves numerous direct flights from major European cities. Upon arrival at Palermo Airport, you can reach the city center by:

Train:  Trenitalia connects the airport to Palermo city centre in about 50 minutes and it costs 6.80€.

Bus: The Prestia e Comandè bus service operates every half hour and takes approximately 50 minutes to reach central Palermo and costs 6.50€.

Taxi: A taxi ride from the airport to the city center takes around 35 minutes and costs approximately €40.

Taxi Sharing: Palermo also offers a taxi sharing service, which allows passengers to share a taxi with others traveling in the same direction. This option is available directly at the airport’s arrivals area. The price for taxi sharing is around €10 per passenger, and requires a minimum of four users. This service is provided by companies like Coop Trinacria and Autoradio Taxi123. Taxi sharing is a great option if you want to reduce costs while still enjoying a comfortable ride into the city. You can easily find these taxi outside the airport.

By Train

If you’re already in Italy, you can reach Palermo by train. Although located on an island, Sicily is connected to mainland Italy via a ferry that carries trains across the Strait of Messina.

By Ferry

For those who enjoy traveling by sea, ferries connect Palermo with several Italian ports:

Genoa: Approximately 20 hours

Naples: Approximately 11 hours

Civitavecchia (Rome): Approximately 13 hours and 45 minutes

Salerno: Approximately 10 hours

Ferries are a popular choice for travelers coming from southern Italy or those who want to bring their own vehicle.

Venue
The XIV Annual Meeting of ESB-ITA is organized in conjunction with IX National Congress of Bioengineering (GNB -2025) for a unique 4-days long conference in biomechanics and bioengineering. Both events will be therefore located in the Campus of the University of Palermo, Building 8, Viale delle Scienze, next to the Department of Engineering. The campus is conveniently situated near the historic center of Palermo, allowing attendees to easily explore the city’s rich cultural heritage during their stay. Additionally, the venue is just a short walk from the “Palazzo Reale-Orleans” train station, making it highly accessible for those arriving by public transportation and with arrangement in the city center. This train station connects the university area with other parts of Palermo and the surrounding region, providing a quick and efficient way to reach the venue.


About the venue

The meeting will be held at Building 8, located on Via delle Scienze, within the University of Palermo Campus. The campus is conveniently situated near the historic center of Palermo, allowing attendees to easily explore the city’s rich cultural heritage during their stay.
Additionally, the venue is just a short walk from the “Palazzo Reale-Orleans” train station, making it highly accessible for those arriving by public transportation. This train station connects the university area with other parts of Palermo and the surrounding region, providing a quick and efficient way to reach the venue.

From Palermo Central railway station
25 minutes walk
9 minutes by train (destination station is “Palermo Palazzo Reale Orleans”)

From Palermo Airport
A direct train from the airport will take you to the nearest train station to the vanue (Palermo Palazzo-Reale Orleans) in about 40 minutes.

From the city centre
